I am overjoyed to announce that I have been hired as a long-term sub for elementary art at Fall Creek. I have had the pleasure of getting to know the art teacher, Tasha Newton, over the last couple years and she runs an incredible program there.  I am lucky to have the opportunity to teach with her and to eventually take over the rains for a brief period when she has her baby. In Adaptive, we took the plastic rings that six packs of pop come in, and we wove pieces of fabric through the rings. We attached the plastic rings to a tagboard frame and the students used vinyl stickers to decorate the frames. The students find the peeling and sticking process of the vinyl very relaxing. They also find the weaving relaxing.

This is a lesson I helped with while student teaching with Kathy Bareis. We did this with our Adaptive students. We made small balls of clay and then pressed our shoes into them to make awesome prints on the clay.


We did this a second time (I don't have pictures of it). We pressed other textures that we could find into the clay. We then took small alphabet spaghetti and made words on our ornaments. The kids loved being able to sort through the spaghetti and find letters in their name!

Because I find the amount of hyperlinks on the side of my blog annoying, I have recently created sub pages to my blog. You can find these, arranged by grade level, by hovering your mouse over the 'Blog' button at the top of the page. My hope is that this will help streamline finding things on my blog. Under each sub page, I will create hyperlinks on the side of the page dealing with project mediums, artists, subject, and elements/principles. I will continue to post general classroom updates to my general blog page.

So I finalllly got to sub at my elementary art placement while Jen was away at the NAEA Conference in New Orleans. It was great getting to teach art at the elementary level again. It made me realize how much I missed teaching art to that age range. I spent two days teaching 4th and 5th grade and two days teaching kindergarten and 1st grade.
