About

Devon Calvert is a K-3 art educator at Harmony and Consolidated Elementary Schools in Milton, Wisconsin, with eleven years dedicated to making art a transformative and student-centered experience. He believes every child, regardless of background, ability, or learning style, deserves meaningful opportunities for self-expression, creativity, and personal growth. Grounded in the Wisconsin Visual Art Standards he helped author, Devon’s teaching emphasizes the lifelong practices of creating, presenting, responding, and connecting through a blend of art history, contemporary voices, and digital tools.

Devon fosters belonging through annual school-wide collaborative artworks that celebrate unity and diversity and student-curated exhibitions at the local library that showcase every child’s work. He piloted the National Elementary Art Honor Society at his school, guiding students in service projects such as positivity posters, cards for retirement home residents, and a fundraiser for a senior pursuing a degree in art. Grant-funded mosaic residencies further build community and legacy.

As a leader, Devon served as WAEA President and NAEA Elementary Division Director. He has presented/hosted dozens of sessions at state and national conferences, authored numerous articles for NAEA News, Art Times, and SchoolArts Magazine, and mentored a pre-service educator. His honors include WAEA Elementary Art Educator of the Year (2024), WAEA Art Educator of the Year (2026), and Wisconsin Teacher of the Year (2026).

He holds a Bachelor’s in Art Education from UW-Eau Claire, a certification in Adaptive Art, and a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University. Outside of school, Devon enjoys backpacking, watching TV, and spending time with his wife Julia, son Sully, and dog Birdie.
