5th Grade

Lichtenstein's Words!

We briefly talked about Roy Lichtenstein to either our fourth or fifth grade students (my memory escapes me). We had a list of 'power' words that they could choose from such as: pow, bam, boom, etc. They then made block letters and turned them into 3D. An explosion was added around the word, as well as some other little designs like lightning bolts. They then used watercolor to paint the words and crayons to do the background.

For this project, I talked a lot about horizon lines and how objects get smaller and move up on our page as they get further away from us (foreground, middle ground, background). I also talked about adobes and the materials that they are made from. We then named off things that we might see in a desert-like environment. Lastly, we talked about warm colors. We first drew and then traced our drawing with a black cray-pas. Then we painted using tempera cakes.

We talked about Peter Max in my fifth grade class. We largely focused on drawing one-point perspective. They then sharpied the lines and painted the background and shapes. Lastly, they used a charcoal pencil to make a gradation.
